Another step in Seattle’s pursuit of an NHL franchise can be checked off the list.

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan tweeted Tuesday afternoon that Oak View Group Seattle has competed its application for an expansion NHL franchise.

Momentum continues to move forward for the potential Seattle NHL team, something that graduated from hopeful to likely last year when the NHL cleared the way to begin the expansion process.

The prospective Seattle NHL team would play in a revamped arena at Seattle Center under the historic roof at KeyArena (formerly the Seattle Coliseum before a previous renovation). The arena is set to begin renovation in 2018, with a target date of opening in time for the 2020-21 NHL season.
