Looking for something to do in Metro Vancouver? Here are three suggestions for Friday, June 15.
Dita Von Teese & The Copper Coupe Burlesque Revue Tour
International Queen of Burlesque Dita Von Teese returns to Vancouver with a new tour. The ‘Dita Von Teese and the Copper Coupe‘ features a bunch of cool new acts, as well as special guest performers Gia Genevieve, Dirty Martini, Ginger Valentine, Jett Adore, Zelia Rose and more. The show will feature glimmering copper elements throughout, as well as a tribute to Sally Rand’s iconic 1930s-era bubble dance, where Von Teese appears in a giant seashell onstage with 1,200 pearl balloons that float from the sky. Plus, apparently her shoes alone are worth the price of admission.
Where: Queen Elizabeth Theatre, 630 Hamilton St., Vancouver
When: 7:30 p.m.
Melbourne duo Jack and Pat Pierce are on the come-up. The alt-folk duo has been touring with their friend, breakout star Tash Sultana, and it’s exposed their high-energy, multi-instrumental show to audiences all over the world. Now they’re embarking on their first ever headlining world tour, and Vancouver is the second stop. The Pierce Brothers, who are twins, which is neat, will visit The Imperial on Friday night before heading to Whistler on Saturday.
Where: The Imperial, 319 Main St., Vancouver
When: 9 p.m.
12 Minutes Max: Edition #42
Anyone who reads this feature regularly knows that I’m a sucker for short performances. That in mind, I have to recommend the 42nd edition of 12 Minutes Max, an awesome event for those with similarly short attention spans, which showcases five short but memorable dance works from some of Vancouver’s best, most innovative, up-and-coming choreographers: Katie Cassady, Alejandra Miranda & Juan Villegas, Sophie Maguire, Jhoely Triana, and Sujit Vaidya.
Where: Scotiabank Dance Centre, 677 Davie St., Vancouver
Cost: 8 p.m.
