Kimberly Spann and her children, Deon, 10, Arlana, 11, Jordyn, 4, Catrell, 13, Ayden, 9, left to right, and Elijah, 7, not in view, pick out free school supplies during Operation Homefront’s annual Back-to-School Brigade event at Hill Field Elementary in Clearfield on Tuesday. During the event, Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to build strong, stable and secure military families, distributed approximately 340 backpacks to military children. The event is made possible by Dollar Tree and Science Applications International Corp., as well as local partners. During this year’s campaign, Operation Homefront will distribute its 375,000th backpack since 2008, saving military families more than $40 million in back-to-school expenses.
