The 2019 high school football season climaxes in Class 6A with American Fork battling Corner Canyon. Both return to the title game for the second straight year, Corner Canyon as defending 5A champ and American Fork as 6A runner-up. Corner Canyon seeks its second title in its seven-year history while American Fork won state crowns in 1961 and 1962.
In 5A, Orem faces Timpview. Orem returns to the finals for the third straight year as the two-time defending Class 4A champion and goes for its eighth state title. Meanwhile, Timpview makes its first appearance since 2015. The T-birds last captured a championship in 2014 and hope to add a 12th trophy to their collection.
The Class 4A final pits Park City against Sky View, programs that have never won a state gridiron championship. Park City is in its 112th season and Sky View is half as old, competing for the 56th time this year. Park City is 0-5 in title contests and last made the finals in 2001. Sky View lost its only championship-game bid, falling to Mountain Crest in 1987.
Two of the six coaches in this week’s finals have won state championships: Corner Canyon’s Eric Kjar — at Jordan (2012) and Corner Canyon (2018) — and Orem’s Jeremy Hill — at Orem (2017 and 2018). American Fork’s Aaron Behm advances to the finals for the third time since 2014. Timpview’s Andy Stokes took Dixie to the championship game in 2015. Park City’s Josh Montzingo and Sky View’s Chris Howell make their first trip.
