What a $1 million home looks like in 25 major American cities

Million-dollar listings have become commonplace in the US real estate market. But when you compare the cost-per-square-foot for million-dollar listings across the country, you’ll find very different results. In Tampa, Florida, $1 million will fetch more than 5,000 square feet, while the same priced home in New York City buys less than 900 square feet. Million-dollar listings once heralded true luxury for Americans who could afford it, but now more than 4% of all homes across the 100 largest US metros are worth at least $1 million. Still, how much space seven figures will buy in different parts of the country ranges drastically. A million dollars could fetch buyers as… Read More

It’s time for free-trading Republicans to stand up to Trump on tariffs — and for Democrats to stand with them

Lots of Republicans in Congress are complaining about President Donald Trump’s steel and aluminum tariffs. But will they do anything to stop them? A few Republicans, including Sen. Pat Toomey, are pushing for legislation to override Trump’s tariffs. This will only work if Republicans are willing to stand up to Trump, and Democrats are willing to stand with them. The reviews are in: Republicans in Congress hate President Donald Trump’s new tariffs on steel and aluminum. Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska says they are “dumb.” Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida says “instead of opening up another front in trade disputes, we should be teaming up with Europe to confront China.”… Read More

The space between Earth and the moon is mind-boggling. This graphic reveals just how big it is — and what’s out there.

The moon is far away from Earth — very, very far away. But don’t take our word for it: Scroll from the moon to the Earth yourself in a new interactive graphic. The graphic also reveals interesting satellites, historical events, and natural phenomena found along the way. Sitting low on the horizon, a full moon sometimes look close enough to reach out and grab. But our worldly perceptions deceive us. The airless chasm between Earth and the moon is so vast, stretching an average of 239,200 miles wide, that it’d take a 747 jet airplane flying at top speed more than a year to arrive. Even traveling at several thousand… Read More

I Tried 8 New Drugstore Mascaras — & The Best One Is Only $5

Some people have Champagne spending habits when they’re living on a Bud Light budget. I, on the other hand, have always been a bargain shopper — especially when it comes to my beauty routine. Although I have the kind of job that grants me the privilege of wearing and using luxury beauty items, if I did have to stick to a regular budget, there’s no chance in hell I’d be willing to splurge on many things over the $20 mark. That would mean having to ditch a few of my favorite things, like my go-to $124 Gucci perfume, or the face mask that revives my skin overnight (while also robbing… Read More

To me, AirPods are the best Apple invention since the iPhone. But they’re not for everyone. My fiancée, for instance, says AirPods don’t fit her ears well. I know this is the case for many people, where Apple’s one-size-fits-all earbud solution doesn’t quite “fit all.” Also, if you have an Android phone, you won’t get some of the AirPods’ best features, like how they automatically play or pause when you take them in and out of your ears. So, what’s the best alternative to AirPods? While no other product right now has the same level of polish, one pair of wireless earbuds come mighty close: The Jaybird Run earbuds cost… Read More
