BYU basketball: BYU beats CBU, 76-69, in the final day of the SDSU Thanksgiving Classic

Four Cougars scored in double figures as BYU women’s basketball won its fourth-consecutive game in a 76-69 victory over California Baptist on Saturday in the SDSU Thanksgiving Classic. “We didn’t play one of our best nights, but I was happy to get the win tonight,” BYU head coach Jeff Judkins said. “Shale Salmon had one of the best offensive games in her career, and Paisley Johnson had a great tournament as well. We have to learn to play better together.” Salmon, Johnson and Shaylee Gonzales all had career highs in points with 19, 20 and 22, respectively. Chase was the other Cougar in double digits with 11 points. Gonzales also… Read More

Montreal Canadiens look ready to bolster their blue line

The Montreal Canadiens are looking for some blue-line help. As Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos reports, the Canadiens might be in the market for a veteran defenceman to pair up with top blue-liner Shea Weber, who is expected to return to the lineup from injury Tuesday. “We do know that Shea Weber’s coming back Tuesday to play. What we don’t know is who he’s really going to play with as a D partner,” Kypreos said during the Headlines segment of Hockey Night in Canada Saturday. “Unfortunately for Claude Julien, not many choices. There’s a lot of inexperienced players on his blue line — some of them hurt now.” If the Canadiens want… Read More

Todd McLellan, Joel Quenneville drawing interest around the league

The NHL’s coaching carousel has been spinning more than usual this season, and for a couple of coaches who were relieved of their duties, their time back on the ride may present themselves again sooner than later. Joel Quenneville, who was fired by the Chicago Blackhawks on Nov. 6, and Todd McLellan, who got the axe from the Edmonton Oilers earlier this week are names with interest around the league, says Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos. “Some NHL teams are inquiring about Joel Quenneville and Todd McLellan,” Kypreos said during the Headlines segment of Hockey Night in Canada Saturday. “I do know that you need permission to talk to these guys from… Read More

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — A prominent Saudi royal said Saturday that whether or not heads of state gathered in Argentina next week for the Group of 20 summit warmly engage with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, he is someone “that they have to deal with.” Prince Turki al-Faisal told The Associated Press the killing of Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi in the kingdom’s consulate in Istanbul last month is “an unacceptable incident that tars and mars the long record of Saudi Arabia’s own standing in the world.” “We will have to bear that. NHL unhappy with state of Senators’ arena situation

As miffed as Eugene Melnyk and the Ottawa Senators are about John Ruddy and the LeBreton Flats situation that led to Melnyk taking legal action against his old partner, the NHL is just as unhappy about it all as anyone else is. As Elliotte Friedman reported during the Headlines segment of Hockey Night in Canada Saturday, the league itself also takes issue with the arena situation in Ottawa. “The sense is the league is very unhappy that it got to this point,” Friedman said. “About a year ago, apparently, the league and the Senators first brought up concerns that their information was telling them that John Ruddy’s other project nearby… Read More
