To transfer your apps and data using iCloud, you need to have a recent backup of your old iPhone. You probably already have your phone configured to perform automatic, daily backups to iCloud. To make sure you have a current backup, see how to back up your iPhone with iCloud in the article “How to backup an iPhone to iCloud, to a computer through iTunes, or to an external hard drive.”
Once you know that you have a backup of the old phone, you can restore it during your new iPhone’s initial setup.
