In the midst of a triple crisis — COVID-19, drug-overdose deaths and homelessness — residents of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside are highly at risk, and their inability to self-isolate puts us all at risk.
This is not a condemnation. It’s a fact.
Without full compliance on limiting social contact, every health official and politician is warning us that the virus could spread to the point where it swamps hospitals and leads to thousands of deaths.
It’s also a fact that it’s impossible to self-isolate and practise physical distancing if you have no home to stay in.
