VICTORIA —

B.C. is moving to secure the supply chain for medical supplies and to locate overflow space for patients, amid concerns that the health system could eventually be overwhelmed by the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Mike Farnworth, solicitor general and cabinet minister for public safety, announced those steps Thursday, using his emergency powers.

His announcement came one day after provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry expressed alarm about “our wicked problem” — the sudden depletion of supplies of personal protective equipment for health care workers.
