Some Disney World resorts in Florida that were scheduled to resume operations in early August have now been rescheduled to open in the fall.
Disney World reopened on July 11, operating at reduced capacity and providing temperature checks.
This news comes as Florida reports 186 new deaths on Tuesday, the state’s highest single-day increase.

On Tuesday, Disney World announced they will postpone the reopening of their hotels as coronavirus cases continue to rise across the country.

Disney’s choice to pump the brakes on Florida-based resorts’ reopenings marks a significant development for the company’s parks division following its controversial choice to reopen Disney World earlier in July. The state has experienced one of the worst resurgences of the coronavirus in the US.

Florida reported 186 new coronavirus related deaths on Tuesday — the state’s highest single-day increase — as total deaths pass 6,000.

Originally, The Polynesian Village Resort and Art of Animation Resort were due to reopen on August 12, but they’re now scheduled to resume operation on October 1 and November 4, respectively.

Disney added that other resorts will remain closed.

“Given the current situation, there are some Disney Resort hotels and other areas that are not, as of this time, being scheduled for reopening yet. We will continue to evaluate the situation and reopen more locations when the environment is right to do so.”

Since reopening, the park has taken precautions to slow the spread of the virus, including temperature checks and reduced capacity.

Disneyland park in California, due to reopen on July 17, has since postponed its reopening to a later date.
