CONCORD — A pedestrian on an on-ramp to state Highway 242 died early Friday, apparently after being hit by the driver of a car, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Agency spokesman Officer Adam Lane said the CHP still was gathering details on the fatality, which happened about 4 a.m. The CHP said the crash happened on the Grant Street/Solano Way on-ramp.

The crash slowed morning commute traffic, which ran lighter than normal because it was Friday, according to the CHP. The CHP did not issue a traffic alert.

The on-ramp to the highway was closed for about 20 minutes for the investigation. It was back open at 5 a.m.
